Today, India has called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions between Russia and Ukraine. India has even cautioned that the situation if not checked would be spiraling into a major crisis. The statement was made by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador TS Tirumurti. He told the council that the nation only two days ago at the council meeting on Ukraine called for urgent de-escalation of tensions.

Tirumurti has expressed his concern over the developments, that might undermine the peace and security of the region. He said that the situation should be handled carefully. Late Wednesday night, The 15-nation UN Security Council held an emergency meeting which is the second this week and fourth in the past 30 days.

As the meeting was underway, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to the Russian leader to stop his troops to attack Ukraine, Putin has a military operation in eastern Ukraine. Tirumurti has expressed his concern that refraining from any further action could contribute to a worsening of the situation.
