The Balochistan High Court has stayed the arrest warrant of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in connection with his statements against government institutions.

Advocate Iqbal Shah, leader of Insaf Lawyers Forum, filed a petition in the Balochistan High Court against the arrest warrant of Imran Khan. The petitioner has also requested to quash the FIR registered against Imran Khan.

Justice Zaheeruddin of the Balochistan High Court heard the petition and suspended the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf President for two weeks while ruling on the petition to withdraw the case filed against Imran Khan done.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case for two weeks and issued notice to the parties.

It may be noted that the Quetta court on Thursday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Imran Khan for making statements against institutions. Quetta police had reached Lahore today to execute this warrant.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Lahore High Court has suspended the order banning the telecast of speeches of former Prime Minister and head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party Imran Khan on TV channels.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned the telecast of Imran Khan’s live or recorded speeches and statements on satellite TV channels. However, the court has stayed this order.

Imran Khan was accused of making baseless allegations against institutions and personalities in his speeches. PTI appealed against this decision of the regulatory authority in the Lahore High Court.

So far, 80 cases were registered against ousted prime minister Khan by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition government during its 11 months of rule.
