Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, recently unveiled an extensive airport project named the Al Maktoum International Airport. Valued at nearly 35 billion US dollars (Rs 2.9 lakh crore), this project is set to become a global hub, featuring five runways and a remarkable capacity to accommodate 260 million passengers and 400 aircraft gates.

Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that this initiative is geared towards ensuring long-term development that will benefit not only the present but also future generations.

One of the project’s standout features is its claim to have the world’s largest capacity, promising to serve a staggering 260 million passengers annually. This new airport will supersede the current Dubai International Airport, expanding its size fivefold. Furthermore, the Al Maktoum International Airport will introduce cutting-edge aviation technologies and infrastructure, boasting 400 aircraft gates and five runways to support its operations efficiently.

In addition to its aviation prowess, the project will also see the development of an entire city around the airport, situated in Dubai South. This city will provide housing for approximately one million residents, indicating a holistic approach to urban planning and development.

The terminal alone for this grand project comes with a hefty price tag of 128 billion AED (34.85 billion US dollars, or Rs 2.9 lakh crore). This significant investment is expected to attract leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors, positioning Dubai as a global leader in aviation and logistics while simultaneously setting new benchmarks for the industry’s standards.
