Nocturia is a health condition where you have to wake up in the night because you have to pee more than once. This condition is normally called Nocturnal urinary frequency. This is a more common condition for elders; those who cross the age of 60. There might be different reasons for this condition and occurs in all genders and sexes. Waking up in the night to pee is more often for many people but it is an underlying problem or symptom if you wake up more than once more often.

Nocturia is completely different from frequent urination. If a person has to pee more often in the daytime but reduces it in the night, then it is called frequent urination. But Nocturia is going to pee more often after going to bed and before waking up. Due to this condition, one can feel disrupted and disturbed due to the disturbance that occurs in the sleep cycle.

The symptoms of Nocturia include waking up more than twice in the night regularly, peeing more in volume, and fatigue in the day due to sleeplessness in the night.

There are certain health conditions that can cause you to pee more often in the night. Those include High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease or Congestive Heart Failure, Edema, Diabetes, etc.,

In fact, nocturia, which is frequent urination, is not a problem of bladder dysfunction. This is because the heart function decreases with age in the elderly. After urinating two or three times the blood is very low in water. Breathing also reduces water in the body. Lack of sufficient water causes the blood to become thick and viscous and slows the heartbeat during sleep. Due to thick blood and slow blood circulation, narrowed blood vessels become blocked easily. This is the reason why adults and elderly people are always diagnosed with heart attack or stroke around 5-6 am. In this state, they might die in their sleep.

But there is nothing to panic. Nocturia is a very common condition in elderly people. It affects more than 50 percent of the adults who cross the age of 50. Nocturia isn’t preventable but it can be treatable. To increase the efficiency of the heart, you should exercise more on a regular basis. Do not eat unhealthy food, especially high starch and fried food. Drink warm water before going to bed and again after getting up to urinate at night.

Don’t be afraid of nocturia. Drink plenty of water, because dehydration can kill you.
