Five students including the JSWtv director’s son earn US National Defense Fellowships

Five Ph.D. students from the University of Colorado Boulder Aerospace have won the prestigious 2023 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) fellowships. Saikiran Chikine, Conor Rowan, Kian Shakerin, Michael Sola, and James Walker are the five students from the university who will be receiving the Department of Defense award.

It provides three-year fellowships to promising young scientists and engineers. Congress established this program in 1989, designated to promote education in science and engineering in the departments relevant to defense. Every year 500 people across the nation will be awarded fellowships.

Saikiran Chikine, son of the JSWtv and JaiSwaraajyatv director Dr. Shivakumar Anand Chikine has responded after receiving the fellowship. He said, “The goal of my research is to develop a new approach to autonomous, uncertainty-aware maneuver planning for cislunar spacecraft that will allow them to perform in a wide range of scenarios.” Saikiran is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at Colorado Boulder University in the Aerospace wing.

Dr. Shivakumar Anand who hails from Palamuru has completed his Ph.D. as well. In the past, he worked as a personal photographer for the then Chief Minister Nandamuri Tarakarama Rao. Saikiran’s mother Umadevi and sister Shivani are proud of his talent. Following in the footsteps of father Shivakumar, daughter Shivani is studying cinematography at New York University. Reviving his father’s skills and learning new techniques in cinematography. Shivakumar and Umadevi are proud parents as their kids are shining bright in their respective chosen fields.
