Yes, It’s been a hard pill to swallow but the truth is that the West Indies will not play the 2023 ODI World Cup that will start in October in India. West Indies were once the greats of ODI Cricket with them winning back-to-back World Cups back in 1975 and 1979. Their ODI show got down but they went to feature in every World Cup even since its inception. This is the first time that they are not playing the mega tournament of the 50-over format game.
In the all-important Super Sixes match today against Scotland, West Indies lost the match by seven wickets. With this loss, WI is officially out of the tournament. West Indies didn’t start the qualifiers well with two wins and two losses in the group stages. They lost against Zimbabwe and Netherlands in the groups and today against Scotland in the Super Sixes.
It will take some time to digest but West Indies shambolic display hurt them big time.
