Cast: Samantha, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Unni Mukundan, Murali Sharma, Rao Ramesh

Director: Hari-Harish

Producer: Sivalenka Krishna Prasad

Music Director: Mani Sharma

Samantha played the lead role in the movie Yashoda which created interest among movie lovers with its intriguing promos. The whole movie revolves around surrogacy which is a unique point. Yashoda got released today and let us see how the movie is.

Story:

Yashoda (Samantha) joins EVA, a facility center that takes care of women who opts for surrogacy. However, Yashoda finds a strange pattern of women missing after they deliver babies. She finds out a huge mystery behind these acts and how she reacts to them forms the crux of the story.

How Madhu (Varalakshmi Sarathkumar) gets involved in all this… what is her backstory is the movie’s core point as well.

Performances:

Samantha performed well in the movie. Well, it is a normal thing to say. Samantha has delivered good performances in each movie. For this film, we can see her excel in action parts as well. Her hard work and dedication can be seen in action blocks which is a good thing.

Varalakshmi Sarathkumar plays a pivotal role in the movie. She did well. However, her character’s backstory which promises a lot fizzles out. Rao Ramesh is regular as a crooked politician. Murali Sharma is sincere. Sampath Raj is okay. The others did fine.

Technicalities:

Mani Sharma’s songs are not so good but he leveled them with an outstanding score. His BGM gives the necessary feel to the project. Hari-Harish comes up with an interesting plot. They did well majorly in keeping the audience’s interest for the major part as well. But the problem with Yashoda is that the concentration shifts more toward the action block than the thrilling elements. The climax is disappointing.

The production values are superb. The production design is just okay as the EVA facility which plays a crucial part in the movie looks artificial which hinders the audience’s flow. The cinematography and editing are alright. The rest of the departments are fine.

Analysis:

Yashoda is an action thriller that tilts more toward the action part. The directors did manage to thrill a few times. But the second half goes wayward. The flashback sequences didn’t get elevated as expected. The climax is a complete letdown. Nevertheless, Yashoda can be watched once for Samantha and a few thrills.

Rating: 2.75/5
