Central Environmental Ministry has given its green flag to the Sabarimala airport. To reach Sabarimala by air, one has to go to Kochi Airport or Thiruvananthapuram Airport. After that, from Kochi one has to travel 160 km by road to Sabarimala. If it is from Thiruvananthapuram one has to travel 170 kilometers. Now, it is going to be easy for the pilgrims as an airport will be constructed at Erumeli, Kottayam district. The Kerala government’s proposal for developing a greenfield Sabarimala airport has got clearance with respect to Standard Terms of Reference.

The airport will be constructed close to Pamba but at the same time, the place is selected such that there is no disturbance to the Sabarimala temple. The distance will be reduced to 45 kilometers. The airport will be constructed on the selected 2,570 acres and the proposed cost is around Rs. 3,411 Crores.

With the Environmental Ministry’s cleared Terms of Reference, Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) Limited will plan and design an Impact Assessment (EIA).
