In an interesting move, Indian Railways has decided to offer Rs. 20 affordable meals to the passengers in the general category. As per the order issued by the Railway Board, these meals along with packaged water will be made available on the platforms aligning with the general coaches.
The board has designed two types of meal boxes. The first one which would cost Rs. 20 will have seven Pooris and dry Aaloo and a pickle as well. The second which has something of the sort of rice, rajma, chole, khichdi kulche, bhature, pao-bhaji, and masala dosa would cost Rs. 50.
The Railway Board has already passed the instructions to make the meal boxes available on the two ends of the Railway Platform aligning to the general coaches. Normally, general coaches will be present near the locomotive and another one near the end. Every train including mail/express will have at least two general coaches.
Railway has also decided to introduce the concept of snack meal where regional food will be given importance.
