The sensational verdict is out. Gujarat special court has sentenced 38 convicts out of the total 49 to the death sentence. The other 11 get life sentences until death. On July 26, 2008, as many as 22 bombs went off in the span of 70 minutes at several locations. A total of 56 people were killed and more than 200 people got injured in the serial blasts.

Ahmedabad serial blasts case is one of the longest criminal trials in the nation with the verdict taking many years. The first arrest regarding the case was made 13 years before. On February 8th the special court has held 49 people guilty for this serial bomb blast case. The court has acquitted 28 others. 16 others have been given the benefit of the doubt. stating that the evidence provided against them is not adequate.

Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, an Islamic terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. It is for the first time in the nation that the hospitals were targeted.
