Radhe Shyam is coming right after Saaho for Prabhas and it took more than 2 and half years for him to release his next. The expectations on this periodic romantic saga are sky-high. Directed by Radha Krishna Kumar, let us see how the movie is.

Story:

Radhe Shyam is set up in the year 1976. Vikram Aditya (Prabhas) is a trained palmist. Due to some circumstances, he had to travel to Italy. He sees Prerna (Pooja Hegde) and its love at first sight for him. Though Prerna is first reluctant, she too falls for him.

However, destiny had other plans for them. How do Vikram Aditya and Prerna’s lives take a turn in the war between love and destiny? How Prerna’s chronic illness plays a major role in that for the rest of the story.

Performances:

Prabhas is dashing as Vikramaditya. He plays his role to perfection. He looks good onscreen. Radhe Shyam doesn’t draw much of Prabhas. He has played the role quite comfortably. He looks charged up in the emotional scenes as well.

Pooja Hegde too fits the role. Her looks are top. She pulls off Prerna quite nicely. However, the chemistry between Prabhas and Pooja Hegde hasn’t worked wonders. It looks okayish.

In a film that mainly runs on the lead pair, Satyaraj, Jagapathi Babu, Murali Sharma, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagya Shree, etc., has nothing much to offer.

However, Murali Sharma, Sachin Khedekar manage to draw attention towards them. Jayaram’s characterization is not up to the mark. Priyadarshi, Krishnam Raju, and others are just okay.

Technicalities:

Director Radha Krishna Kumar should be commended for picking up a romantic saga and staying true to the genre throughout. The technicalities of Radhe Shyam put the film on Pan Indian level. The cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa is excellent. The visuals are grand and look vibrant. The natural locations and the setting will impress you to the fullest.

The art department, Production design should be commended for pulling out such a herculean task. The VFX shots which come towards the climax are top-notch. The respective department should be given special mention for their work.

Music by Justin Prabhakaran is soulful. The background music by SS Thaman is even better. Radha Krishna Kumar tried to take up two different mindsets, two different backdrops, and weave a love story between them taking up the backdrops of palmistry and a chronic illness… He is successful in parts.

The production values are really superb. They should be given a pat on their back. The editing should have been sharp.

Analysis:

For any romantic saga, the lead pair chemistry should play to the strength of the movie. But in Radhe Shyam, it didn’t serve the purpose. The film balances on a wafer-thin storyline with the support of technical brilliance. The visuals and the ship episode are plus points of the film apart from Prabhas and Pooja Hegde’s looks. Other than these, there is nothing much to talk about.

Overall, Radhe Shyam is a simple romantic entertainer. Prabhas’s fans may not like it completely as it is completely in contrast to Prabhas’s macho image.
