Termed as the mother of all reservoirs, Mallanna Sagar reservoir has been inaugurated today by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. It was constructed as part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). Today, KCR has dedicated the reservoir to the nation. Finance Minister T Harish Rao, MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, a few MLAs, MLCs, and officials have been part of this inauguration ceremony.
Before releasing the Godavari river water into the Mallanna Sagar, KCR performed a special puja. The reservoir is claimed to be the biggest artificial reservoir in India. It will irrigate 1.29 lakh acres in 10 districts. KCR has said that it will quench the thirst of Hyderabad apart from irrigating lands in Siddipet and neighboring districts.
The reservoir costs Rs. 6,805 Cr and has a storage capacity of 50 TMCft. KCR on this occasion has said that it is like a dream come true moment for him as his dream is always to transform Telangana into a prosperous and fertile land.
