Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been reinstated as the MP four months after his disqualification. It is well known that the Supreme Court put a stay on his conviction in the 2019 criminal defamation case where he passed Modi surname remarks. After the comments, Lok Sabha Secretariat passed a notification that Rahul Gandhi had been disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP.
Today on the day of Rahul Gandhi’s restoration as the MP, he received a warm welcome from the opposition. Rahul Gandhi reached the Parliament where the Monsoon session was going. Rahul Gandhi offered prayers in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge termed this move to restore Rahul Gandhi as the MP a “Welcome Step.”
As soon as he was restored as the MP, celebrations broke out in the party headquarters and outside Sonia Gandhi’s house. It is well known that on August 4th, the Supreme Court upheld Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a criminal defamation case over Modi’s surname remarks.
