Himachal rains: 22 dead so far, many still trapped in debris

At least 22 people have died so far in Himachal Pradesh on Monday due to heavy rainfall in the state for the past two days. The incessant rainfall resulted in huge floods and landslides. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Summer Hill collapsed due to rains and this resulted in the death of 9 people. As per the sources, at least 25-30 people were present in the temple at that time and five people were rescued from the debris.

In another incident in the state, seven people were buried alive after the mudslide in the Solan district. Four bodies have been recovered so far and five people were rescued from the debris. In Mandi, six people succumbed to natural disasters.

The officials are predicting that the death toll might increase. The state’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu advised people to stay away from the areas that were prone to sliding and water bodies. The Chandigarh-Manali highway has been shut since Friday due to rains.
