Our very own Nikhat Zareen, who hails from Nizamabad, Telangana has made the nation proud. Nikhat has won the World’s boxing championship. The tournament happened in Istanbul, Turkey. In the finals, Nikhat won the gold medal by beating Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas in the fly-weight category. Her scores read 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28.

Thus, she became the fifth Indian women boxer at the World Boxing Championships. Previously, Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, and Lekha KC have won the gold medal in the championship. Nikhat aged 25 is also a former Jr. World Champion.
