The Guntur police have booked cases against an NRI Vuyyuru Srinivasa Rao who is expecting a Telugu Desam Party ticket for the Guntur West assembly constituency in the upcoming elections. Allegedly, Vuyyuru Srinivasa Rao was the one who organized the event in which the unfortunate stampede happened.
Srinivasa Rao wanted to distribute saree and groceries to the women in the name of Chandranna Kanuka through his Vuyyuru Foundation. He invited TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu to the event.
A huge crowd was present for the event and after launching the program, organizers announced to go back to their homes and that the distribution of sarees will happen in every ward of the town. Women who attended the program in a small ground were disappointed with the announcement and thronged the distribution counter for sarees which resulted in a stampede, three women died and several others were injured. The Police might arrest Vuyyuru Srinivasa Rao in this case.
