Honoring and recognizing the achievements in all fields of activities and disciplines where public service is involved, today, the government of India announced the most prestigious Padma Awards.
Dilip Mahalanabis who pioneered the usage of ORS will be awarded the second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan posthumously in the field of Medicine (Pediatrics).
Along with it, 25 Padma Shri Awards were announced as well. Of the 25 Padma Shri recipients two hail from the Telugu States. Professor B Ramakrishna Reddy from Telangana who is a linguistic professor and social worker from Kakinada, Andha Pradesh Sankurathri Chandra Sekhar will be awarded with Padma Shri. Tollywood music composer MM Keeravani has been recognized for his services to the music industry by announcing Padma Shri. This is the fourth highest civilian award.
