1. Every year, National Vaccination Day is celebrated on March 16th to spread the importance of vaccinations which plays a key role in to fight against deadly diseases. It is also known as National Immunisation Day.
2. This day also celebrates India's victory over Polio.
3. The first dose of the oral Polio Vaccine was carried out successfully on March 16th, 1955. Hence the same day marks National Vaccination Day.
4. No case of Polio was recorded since 2011. In the year 2014, India was declared Polio Free Nation by World Health Organization.
5. India is now moving towards the eradication of measles and rubella through the vaccination of over 324 million children through MR vaccination campaigns.
6. We have recently witnessed the significance of vaccines after COVID. To date, 2,20,64,71,236 Covid vaccines have been administered in the country.
7. Every year, special day was celebrated with a specific theme. In 2022, the theme was "Vaccines for everyone". However, this year the theme was not announced yet.
