The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, an organization of Islamic countries, has issued a statement saying that the targeting of Muslims during the Ram Navami procession in India is worrisome.
The OIC has said in its statement that there has been violence against Muslims in many states of India and mobs of extremist Hindus have torched madrasas as well as libraries. OIC has cited the violence in Bihar.
The OIC said, “The OIC Secretary-General condemns these inciting violent incidents. These violent incidents are vivid examples of growing Islamophobia. Muslims are being systematically targeted in India. OIC demands strict action from India against those involved in this violence. India should ensure the safety of Muslims and protect their dignity along with their rights.
This is not the first time that OIC has raised its voice regarding Muslims in India. OIC keeps questioning India even in the matter of Kashmir.
The OIC had earlier issued a statement expressing concern over the Dharma Sansad in Haridwar, the Hijab controversy in Karnataka and the alleged hatred against Muslims. The OIC also raised questions on India regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act.
India has been rejecting OIC’s statements every time. On the earlier statements of OIC, India’s Ministry of External Affairs had said that it is interference in India’s internal affairs and OIC has no right to do so.
India is not a member of the OIC despite being among the top three countries in terms of Muslim population.
