Chandrababu Naidu met Union Minister of Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on March 6 to seek expedited approvals and central assistance for the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada Metro Rail projects. These projects are deemed essential for reducing traffic congestion, enhancing connectivity, and boosting economic development in Andhra Pradesh.
Metro Projects: A Critical Need
During the discussion, Naidu underscored the urgent necessity for these metro systems, especially given the rapid urbanization and infrastructure needs in Andhra Pradesh. He pointed out the disparity in approvals, noting that Hyderabad’s Metro Rail received clearance before the state bifurcation, whereas Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada projects are still pending.

- Visakhapatnam Metro: Aims to decongest the city, integrate with national highways, and extend towards the Bhogapuram International Airport, which is set to be operational by June 2026.
