Vani Jayaram, popular singer in the Indian Cinema passed away this afternoon. She was aged 77 years. In her career spanning over 5 decades, Vani Jayaram sang for over 10,000 songs in more than 1,000 movies. Vani Jayaram has also recorded thousands of devotional and private albums. She sang in various languages like Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia,[4] Gujarati, Haryanvi, Assameese, Tulu, and Bengali languages.
Vani Jayaram’s impact on Telugu Cinema is unparalleled. She rose to fame with the classic Shankarabharanam whose filmmaker K Vishwanath breathed his last yesterday. Vani Jayaram worked with some legends in music like KV Mahadevan, Chakravarthy, Sathyam, Ilayaraja, and MS Vishwanathan.
In her illustrious career, Vani Jayaram won the National Award three times (two of them from Telugu Cinema). The Government of India conferred Vani Jayaram with the Padma Bhushan award this year.
We have lost a legend in Vani Jayaram. May her soul rest in peace.
