This Pongal, two fierce forces, Ajith and Vijay locked horns with their respective flicks Thunivu and Varisu. Both films were released on January 11th and received average ratings. However, the collections have been superb. Vijay’s Varisu dominated Thunivu all over. Thunivu crossed Rs. 200 Cr gross and Thunivu collected Rs. 146 Crores gross.
However, the target for Thunivu is relatively lesser and hence the movie reached breakeven in the majority of the areas. Thunivu, however, failed to reach breakeven in the Telugu States. It will end up as a loss venture.
On the other hand, Varisu still needs long legs to reach the breakeven. The film needs to reach the mark in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala & Overseas. It is own release for the producers in the Telugu States.
