Mani Ratnam’s dream project Ponniyin Selvan-I was a gigantic hit in Tamil Nadu. The film collected Rs. 500 Crores worldwide and the majority of the share came from Tamil Nadu. In the other languages, PS-I was a super flop. Especially in Telugu, where rich content flicks will always have reception, PS-I’s reception was surprising.
Mani Ratnam failed to give the movie a universal appeal and the film suffered severe Tamil flavor which will not be, obviously, liked in other languages moviegoers. Dil Raju invested hugely in the first part and lost it big time. Now, the PS-II is gearing up for release on April 28th.
The pre-release business is excellent in Tamil Nadu but there are no takers in Telugu. Eventually, the project will have one, but the trend suggests that it might not make even Rs. 10 Crores business in the Telugu States.
