Mumbai: Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’ is outperforming Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’ in Hindi ticket sales, marking a surprising turn of events.

According to trade site Sacnilk, by the evening of July 10, ‘Indian 2’ had sold 5,800 tickets for its Hindi version, grossing over Rs 5 lakhs, while ‘Sarfira’ trailed with 5,510 tickets sold. Despite Kamal Haasan’s waning popularity in the Hindi market since his peak in the late 80s and 90s and the 30-year gap since the release of the original ‘Indian,’ ‘Indian 2’ is outperforming expectations.

Advance bookings for ‘Indian 2’ initially started slow but have gained momentum both in India and the US, grossing around Rs 10 crore in advance sales for its first day. Trade predictions suggest an opening day collection of over Rs 40-50 crore worldwide.

With its increasing numbers, ‘Indian 2’ is set to double its advance sales, promising a strong start even on a working-day release.
