Team India emerged victorious against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, marking a triumphant return to the ICC trophy after 11 years. However, wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who earned his spot on the World Cup squad, did not get the opportunity to play in the tournament. Following Rishabh Pant’s return from injury, Sanju Samson remained on the bench throughout the event.
Ahead of the final, Indian captain Rohit Sharma informed Sanju Samson to be ready for action. However, just minutes before the toss, Rohit decided to stick with the same playing XI.

In a recent interview, Sanju Samson recounted, “I was told to be prepared for the final, and I was ready. But just before the toss, we decided to go with the same team. I didn’t feel bad about it.”
Sanju Samson shared that a ten-minute conversation with Rohit Sharma before the final altered his mindset. Despite his disappointment at not being able to play in such a crucial match, he highlighted the importance of focusing on the team’s success.
Recently, Sanju Samson shone in a T20 match against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, scoring 111 runs off just 47 balls, showing his potential for future opportunities.
