The next T20 World Cup which happens in 2024 will be played in an entirely different format. it is already known that West Indies and the USA will be collectively hosting the mega tournament. ICC has announced the format details. The next T20 World Cup will be played with 20 teams. It is a completely different format when compared to the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups.
The 20 teams participating in the tournament will be divided into four groups of five teams each. The top 2 teams from each group will proceed to the Super 8 stages. The ICC bid goodbye to the Super 12 format. The 8 teams which proceed to the next format will be divided into two groups of four teams each. Again, the top 2 teams will proceed to the semi-final stages.
The top 8 teams of the 2022 world cup have directly qualified for the 2024 T20 world cup which includes Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. West Indies and USA have directly qualified as the hosts. Bangladesh and Afghanistan are the next teams on the based rankings to be qualified. The remaining 8 teams will be qualified based on the regional play.
