Steve Smith will be leading Australia in the upcoming ODI series against India. The ODI regular captain Pat Cummins continues to stay back in Australia. It is known that Pat Cummins returned to Australia after the second test to attend to his mother who was then battling for life. Subsequently, she passed away during the fourth test.
Australian head coach Andrew McDonald confirmed the news. “Pat won’t be coming back, he’s still taking care of what’s happened back home. Our thoughts are with Pat and his family as they go through that grieving process,” he stated.
During the absence of Cummins for the last two tests Smith led the side and was impressive with the tactics. So, he will continue to lead the ODI series as well. David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Marsh will return to the squad after recovering from injuries.
The three-match ODI series will start on March 17th in Mumbai.
