Melbourne: Former India cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has lauded 21-year-old Nitish Kumar Reddy’s unbeaten knock of 105 as “one of the greatest hundreds in Indian cricket history.” Reddy’s heroic effort on day three of the BGT 2024 Test in Melbourne earned widespread acclaim for its grit and determination.

Walking in at a precarious 191/6, Nitish Kumar Reddy steered India’s innings with a remarkable partnership of 127 runs alongside Washington Sundar, who contributed 50 off 162 balls. Reddy’s 105 not out off 176 balls on day 4 showcased his ability to counter challenging conditions and pressure, marking his maiden Test century.

Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar praised Reddy’s poise and resilience, expressing high hopes for the youngster’s future. “This century by Nitish Kumar Reddy must rank as one of the greatest hundreds in the history of Indian cricket. It’s his first Test hundred, and I am confident he will score many more. He is a star for the future,” Gavaskar said.

Sunil Gavaskar also advised Nitish Kumar Reddy to remain humble and remember his family’s sacrifices. “Nitish must stay grounded and true to himself. He’s here because of Indian cricket and must never take it for granted. Dedication and hard work will ensure his success,” he added.
