In a remarkable upset, New Zealand defeated Team India by 113 runs in the second Test at Pune, securing a historic series victory on Indian soil. Chasing a target of 359, India faltered and was bowled out for 245.
Yashasvi Jaiswal topscored with a resilient 77, but other Indian batters failed to capitalize. New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner was instrumental, claiming six wickets in the second innings after a seven-wicket haul in the first, cementing the visitors’ dominance.

With this win, New Zealand takes an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, marking their first-ever Test series victory in India. This also signifies New Zealand’s first away series win in the history of the World Test Championship, breaking India’s unbeaten streak of 18 consecutive home series wins since 2012.
Starting the day at 198/5, New Zealand was eventually bowled out for 255, setting India a challenging target of 359. India began their innings positively but quickly lost Rohit Sharma for 8. At 81/1 by lunch, India seemed in control, but a second-session collapse, largely due to Santner’s skillful spin, led to their downfall.
Key wickets, including Shubman Gill (23), Virat Kohli (17), and Rishabh Pant (0), left India with no chance of recovery. Despite a late fight from Ravindra Jadeja (42), New Zealand clinched a memorable victory. The final Test begins on November 1 in Mumbai.
