After being sent in to bat, the Blackcaps posted 320/5 in 50 overs, thanks to centuries from Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118)*, along with a quickfire 61 off 39 balls from Glenn Phillips. Pakistan had New Zealand struggling at 73/3, but a 118-run stand between Young and Latham shifted momentum. Naseem Shah (2/63) was Pakistan’s best bowler.

In response, Pakistan faltered early, reaching only 22/2 in 10 overs. Babar Azam (64 off 90 balls) struggled for fluency, while Khushdil Shah (69) and Salman Agha (42) played attacking cameos. However, the target proved too steep as Pakistan was bowled out for 260. William O’Rourke and Mitchell Santner starred with three wickets each, sealing a convincing win for the Kiwis.

Pakistan now faces arch-rivals India in their next game under mounting pressure, while New Zealand starts their campaign on a high note.
