New Zealand star batter Kane Williamson is set to miss the upcoming ODI World Cup which will be played later this year. It is known that Williamson sustained a knee injury while fielding in the first match of his franchise Gujarat Titans. After scans, it was revealed that the anterior cruciate ligament was ruptured on his right knee and surgery is essential.

Currently, Williamson is waiting for the knee swelling to come down. ACL reconstructive surgery usually takes six months to completely recover which is as much time as the ODI world cup. So, it is highly unlikely Williamson is going to take a part straight into the ODI World Cup.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead, however, hasn’t completely ruled out Williamson’s participation in the marquee tournament. “We certainly haven’t given ope on that,” he said.

Kane Williamson is disappointed but he says that his current focus is on recovery and rehabilitation.
