The first ODI of the 3-match series is underway in Auckland. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 306 runs in their quota of 50 overs. Indian openers like-always gave their best. Both Dhawan and Shubhman Gill batted with positive intent and scored 124 for the first wicket. Shubhman fell immediately after scoring his fifty. Shikhar Dhawan fell in the next over and this caused a mini-collapse. Both Pant and SKY haven’t scored much.

But the partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson has put India back on track. Their partnership of 94 changed the complexion and Washington Sundar’s entry gave India the much-needed boost. He took India over the 300 line by scoring 37 in just 16 balls.

Southee and Ferguson picked three wickets each. Only once a total of 300+ has been changed in Auckland and India will test their luck with a rather inexperienced side.
