Karachi: England’s Champions Trophy campaign has taken a major hit as right-arm pacer Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the tournament due to a toe injury. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that spinner Rehan Ahmed has been called in as his replacement.

Carse sustained the injury during England’s opening Group B match against Australia in Lahore. Despite being deemed fit for the match, he struggled, conceding runs at an economy of 9.85 as Australia chased down a record 352-run target. His toe issue initially began as a blister during England’s India tour, later requiring stitches. With his condition worsening, Carse was withdrawn ahead of England’s second group-stage match against Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Rehan Ahmed’s inclusion strengthens England’s spin attack, previously led by Adil Rashid as the lone frontline spinner. The 20-year-old has taken 10 wickets in five ODIs and could play a crucial role.
Meanwhile, Jamie Overton may replace Carse in the playing XI, with Saqib Mahmood and Gus Atkinson also in the squad as pace options.
