Babita Phogat revealed that the Dangal director, Nitesh Tiwari, approached her family after reading a newspaper article about her father, Mahavir Singh Phogat, and his daughters, Geeta and Babita. Initially, Nitesh Tiwari planned to make a documentary but eventually decided on a feature film. Babita said that her family was emotional after hearing the script but insisted that their real names be used in the movie, which her father made clear.

While Dangal became a massive hit, grossing over FRs 2000 crore, Babita Phogat disclosed that her family only received Rs 1 crore. She also mentioned that after the film’s success, her father approached Aamir Khan’s team, asking for financial help to build a wrestling academy in their village, which would cost around Rs 5 crore. However, she alleged that the team showed no interest in supporting their cause.
