Secunderabad: In a major crackdown on drug peddling in Hyderabad, the Task Force (North) team, along with local police, arrested seven persons at James Street railway station in Secunderabad on Tuesday. Two drug consumers were also held. Officials seized 8 kg of marijuana, valued at Rs 2.4 lakh.

The accused include T. Sanjay, a rowdy sheeter from Marredpally, and T. Pavan, also a rowdy sheeter from Marredpally with a pending non-bailable warrant. Others arrested are J. Deepanshu Kumar (Yapral), D. Kiran Kumar (Shamirpet), K. Naveen Kumar (Shamirpet), M. Krishna Rohith Kumar (Alwal), and M. Joel Vanshika (Balaji Nagar). The drug consumers held are T. Harshavardhan (Neredmet) and D. Dikshit Sai Kumar (Tukaramgate). The main supplier, Subba Rao from Araku, Andhra Pradesh, is absconding.

According to police, Sanjay procured marijuana from Araku and, with Pavan and others, smuggled it into Hyderabad, selling it to students and youngsters at higher prices. Based on a tip-off, officials busted the gang and seized the contraband.
