Cobra movie review: Costly failure

Cast: Vikram, Roshan Mathew, Srinidhi Shetty

Director: Ajay Gnanamuthu
Music Director: AR Rahman

Kollywood star hero Vikram who has a considerable market in the Telugu States came up with the movie Cobra. Let us see how the movie is.

Story:
Madhi (Vikram) is a maths genius. Using his subject prowess he starts committing murders for Rishi (Roshan Mathew). While this thing is going on a major twist arrives for Madhi. What is it? Interpol officer Aslan (Irfan Pathan) plays a key role in the proceedings as well.

Performances:
As usual, Vikram did his part to perfection. He donned various getups and is believable in all of them. His performance is top-notch. Roshan Mathew as the antagonist is decent. Irfan Pathan is okay in the role of a cricketer.

Srinidhi Shetty hasn’t got a proper role. Her chemistry with Vikram is not up to the mark as well. Mrinalini Ravi and Meenakshi Govindarajan will be seen in extended cameo roles. KS Ravikumar and John Vijay are okay in their roles.

Technicalities:
Bhuvan Srinivasan and Harish Kannan’s cinematography is perfect. AR Rahman’s music is just okay. We expect a lot from him. BGM is impressive though. Bhuvan Srinivasan and John Abraham did the editing work. One feels that at least 30 minutes of the movie should be chopped off. The production values are good.

Ajay Gnanamuthu came up with an intense drama with a mathematics backdrop. But he failed to execute it properly.

Analysis:
Cobra is a mathematics-based action drama. Except for Vikram’s good performance, there is nothing to enjoy it.
