Vijayawada: Vijayawada Railway Station has been awarded the prestigious NSG-1 (Non-Suburban Group 1) status, making it the second station in South Central Railway to achieve this, following Secunderabad. This honor comes as Vijayawada surpasses an annual revenue of Rs 500 crores, placing it among the top 28 elite railway stations in India.
The NSG-1 category, introduced in 2017-18, is granted to stations with annual revenues exceeding Rs 500 crores or those serving over 2 crore passengers. Previously, Vijayawada had narrowly missed this status but has now achieved it with a revenue of Rs 528 crores, the highest among stations in Andhra Pradesh.
DRM Narendra Patil expressed pride in this recognition, highlighting enhanced facilities to meet passenger needs. The station handles 250 passenger trains and 70 goods trains daily, serving major regions across India.
Vijayawada Railway Station is also recognized as a “Divyang Jan Friendly Station” with facilities like lifts, escalators, and medical amenities.
