Telugu Desam Party has finally decided to support Droupadi Murmu in the upcoming Presidential elections. The decision came late as the opposition party in Andhra Pradesh hasn’t revealed its stand until now. The party’s meeting was held today and the decision was taken at last.
The party revealed that since its inception Telugu Desam Party is committed to the concept of social justice. TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu said in a statement that his party has supported the likes of the candidatures of K R Narayanan and Abdul Kalam as Presidential candidates in the past.
When PV Narasimha Rao contested from Nandyal, TDP did not field a candidate. Naidu also said that they made the Dalit leader, GMC Balayogi the speaker of Lok Sabha. Telugu Desam Party had 4 MPs – three in Lok Sabha, and one in Rajya Sabha. There are also 23 MLAs for the party who could participate in the vote. It is known that YSRCP has also supported the candidature of Droupadi Murmu.
