Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) implemented development projects worth Rs 185.21 crore over the past year, city Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari revealed during the annual media briefing on December 31, 2024.
Among the key initiatives, five stadiums are undergoing renovations at an estimated cost of Rs 36.33 crore, aiming to enhance sports infrastructure in the city. To improve leisure facilities, the GVMC has completed nine theme parks at a total expenditure of Rs 17.43 crore.
In the Visakhapatnam West constituency, efforts to provide an uninterrupted 24/7 water supply are nearing completion, with 71% of the project work finalized. Meanwhile, the GVMC achieved an impressive Rs 283 crore in tax collections for the fiscal year 2024-2025, reflecting its focus on financial efficiency.
The Mayor also highlighted the corporation’s initiatives to boost the city’s greenery by 50%, encouraging community and terrace gardening among residents. “This is part of our commitment to making Visakhapatnam a more sustainable and eco-friendly city,” she stated.
Recognized for its sanitation and civic services, the GVMC received several prestigious awards, including Swachh Bagidari, PM SVANidhi, and the top honor for public awareness programs, further solidifying its reputation as a model urban body.
