Eluru: As heavy rains bring relief to Andhra Pradesh, locals are witnessing an unusual sight in Velerupadu village, Eluru district.
Local news reports the appearance of a rare, sindoor-colored frog, causing a buzz among residents. The frog’s dotted skin and striking hue set it apart from common frogs typically found around ponds and streams.
Babu, a zoology teacher at Rajamahendravaram Arts College, identified the amphibian as a rare species. “No recent sightings of this creature have been reported,” he noted. This discovery follows the April appearance of another rare and expensive amphibian, the poison dart frog, known for its vivid colors and deadly poison.
Priced at Rs 2 lakh, it has enough toxin to kill ten humans, making it one of the most dangerous organisms globally. Brightly colored in yellow, black, green, and orange, the poison dart frog ranks as the second most valuable frog species in the world.
