Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan’s proposal of changing the name of NTR health university to the name of YSR has created a huge ruckus. All the TDP MLAs and MLCs protested by holding placards and raising slogans ‘NTR Amar Rahe’ and ‘Johar NTR’. TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu slammed the move and questioned the ruling party on which basis the name should be changed.
“NTR has formed the university. How can you change it in the name of your father? Even your father never thought to change the name of the university. If you want popularity bring new Universities, not change the name of the current ones,” criticized Chandrababu.
Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitharam again suspended all the TDP MLAs for not allowing the proceedings and ordered the marshalls to take them away.
It was in the year 1986, NTR formed a separate health university to promote medical education in United Andhra Pradesh. Nara Chandrababu Naidu during his regime named the university after the leader.
