Kadapa: In Kadapa, the NDA government has focused on the alleged sand mining scam during the YSRCP rule. Contractors reportedly operated freely while the Mines Department did not take action.
Former Director of Mines, Venkata Reddy, is under scrutiny, with Vigilance officials investigating field-level complaints and questioning locals about sand mining activities in the YSR and Annamayya districts. Despite warnings from the Supreme Court and NGT, illegal sand excavation continued in rivers like Papagni, Penna, and Cheyyeru.
The main contractor, Jaypee Power Ventures, handled operations from May 2021 to November 2023. Vigilance is probing connections between the sand mafia and political leaders, with some involved facing allegations of corruption.
The investigation aims to collect evidence and bring those responsible to justice.
