Congress senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge has won the Presidential election of the party. The counting of the votes got concluded today and Kharge has got huge lead against Shashi Tharoor who contested against him. According to the official stats, Kharge has got 7,897 votes and Shashi Tharoor got about 1000 votes while 416 votes got rejected.
With this, Kharge will now replace Sonia Gandhi as the new President of the Congress Party. Soon after the results got declared Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter and accepted the decision of the Congress party delegates. He congratulated Kharge for becoming the new President.
Tharoor also thanked Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for ensuring natural and free elections. “It is a great honour & a huge responsibility to be President of @INCIndia &I wish @Kharge ji all success in that task. It was a privilege to have received the support of over a thousand colleagues,& to carry the hopes& aspirations of so many well-wishers of Congress across India,” he tweeted.
