Hyderabad: The GMR Group, which manages the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad, is planning a significant expansion to meet the growing passenger traffic. This includes adding another terminal and a second runway once annual passenger traffic reaches 45 million.

Currently, the airport handles 30 million passengers annually, with projections indicating the figure will reach 45 million by 2030.

SGK Kishore, Executive Director and Chief Innovation Officer of GMR Airports, highlighted the need for proactive planning to accommodate future growth. “Based on projections, we anticipate 45 million passengers per annum by 2030. We have already initiated capacity expansion planning to ensure readiness,” he stated.

RGIA, originally built in 2008 with a capacity of 12 million passengers, has expanded its infrastructure to handle 34 million passengers annually. The airport currently operates with a single integrated terminal and is geared towards handling up to 100 million passengers in the long term.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) unveiled an AI-powered Airport Predictive Operation Centre (APOC). This state-of-the-art platform integrates real-time data across airside, landside, and terminal operations, optimizing decision-making, reducing disruptions, and ensuring seamless airport operations. The expansion underscores RGIA’s commitment to maintaining world-class infrastructure and passenger experience.
