Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a landmark decision to distribute free residential plots exclusively in the names of women. Under this initiative, families below the poverty line, possessing white ration cards, will be eligible to receive these plots. The government plans to allocate 2 cents of land in urban areas and 3 cents in rural areas per eligible family.
This initiative is part of the state’s ambitious “Houses for All” scheme, aimed at empowering women and improving housing accessibility for economically disadvantaged families. The decision was formalized during the recent cabinet meeting, following which GO-23 was issued to implement the scheme.
By ensuring the housing plots are registered in women’s names, the government aims to promote gender equality and strengthen women’s financial independence. This move has been widely appreciated, particularly among rural and urban poor families.
The government has also clarified that the scheme is exclusively for families holding white ration cards, ensuring that the benefits reach those in genuine need. This housing initiative is expected to provide a significant boost to housing security for underprivileged families across Andhra Pradesh.
