Amaravati: The AP government has imposed restrictions on fishing around the Srisailam Reservoir.
The Fisheries Department has issued orders banning fishing activities during the natural spawning period for fish in July and August. The directive prohibits fishing in the Srisailam Reservoir and its backwaters during this critical period.
Due to the halt in water release from the Srisailam project, fishermen have turned to using nets in the lower regions of the dam, including Paatala Ganga and Lingalagattu villages along the Krishna River. With the cessation of flood flows from upstream areas, all project gates were closed on August 12.
Consequently, large fish are entering the plunge pool below the dam, attracting fishermen who are using nets to capture them. In response, Fisheries Department officials have issued restrictions to protect fish populations during their spawning season.
