Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government announced that free RTC bus transport for women will commence on August 15, coinciding with India’s 78th Independence Day. Revenue Minister Satya Prasad Anagani made the announcement, fulfilling one of the ‘super six’ schemes promised by the TDP before the elections.
The ‘super six’ schemes include increased pensions for senior citizens, Mega DSC notifications, free RTC bus travel for women, 20 lakh jobs for youth in five years, a Rs 3,000 allowance for the unemployed, and a Rs 15,000 annual maternity grant.
APSRTC officials have requested reports on similar schemes’ implementation in Karnataka and Telangana, including details on daily female ridership, government burden, and potential challenges.
In Telangana, the scheme’s projected annual cost is around Rs 1,500 crore, with the state government initially releasing Rs 374 crore as a subsidy. TSRTC plans to claim Rs 250 crore per month for the scheme’s implementation.
