Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government is prioritizing the resumption of construction for the state capital, Amaravati. A team of engineers from IITs will evaluate the structural integrity of various unfinished buildings in the area. Construction, including apartments for legislators, officers, NGOs, and judicial complexes, was halted due to previous policy changes.
The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has cleared overgrown sites to prepare for further work. Seventeen projects in Amaravati’s capital region, initially estimated at Rs 9,617.21 crore, now cost Rs 1,958.37 crore. Physical progress ranges from 6% to 80% completion, with Rs 1,531.37 crore spent so far.
Key projects remain stalled: the AP Legislative Assembly Complex (Rs 555 crore) has not begun, while apartments for legislators and officers (Rs 700 crore) are 80% complete. Other significant projects include NGOs’ apartments (62% complete), government officials’ apartments (66% complete), and judicial buildings at various stages.
The “Happy Nest” Project, a residential development over 14.46 acres, is only 25% complete due to a terminated contract, with costs rising from Rs 720.5 crore to Rs 885 crore. Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana announced collaboration with IIT Chennai and IIT Hyderabad to ensure the buildings’ structural integrity. Construction will proceed based on their reports, ensuring safety and quality.
