Vijayawada: Farmers from Peddakurapadu constituency have expressed their willingness to provide land for the proposed Amaravati railway line project, but only under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) rather than traditional land acquisition. They have requested the state government to allocate developed plots in the Amaravati capital region in exchange for their land, citing the successful LPS model used for Vijayawada airport in Gannavaram as a precedent.
Farmers from villages including Karlapudi, Pedaparimi, Tadikonda, and Nidumukkala met Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana to present their demands.
The railway project involves a 57-kilometre track connecting Errupalem in Khammam district to Amaravati in Guntur district, with the Union government allocating Rs 245 crore for the project. While the state government aims to complete the project within three years, the original timeline is four years. The project requires land acquisition in Khammam district (Telangana) and NTR and Guntur districts (Andhra Pradesh), including 15 acres for a railway station and related infrastructure in the Amaravati region.
Minister Narayana assured farmers that their concerns would be addressed. “Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will take a final decision. The proposal will be discussed at the CRDA review meeting to ensure no injustice to farmers,” he stated.
