For the first time in history, Christians now account for less than half of the population in England and Wales. The Census 2021 figures reveal some interesting facts. Those who follow Christianity are in the declining phase and those who don’t follow any religion have seen a spike.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveals that 46.2 percent of the population (27.5 million people) termed themselves Christians. It is a staggering 13.1 percent lower than the last census. According to the statistics, every other religion has seen an increase in number except for Christianity.

Those who don’t follow any religion account for 37.2 percent (22.2 million) which is 12 percent more than the previous census. Also, there is a decrease in the number of White residents in England and Wales. It has seen a decrease from 86 percent to 81.7 percent (48.7 million). The Asian community has seen an increase of 1.8 percent when compared to the previous census. They are currently 9.3 percent (5.5 million) Asian group, the census study reveals.
